MARIA SAKELLARIOU
Co-founder & Scientific Director of Embryology & Andrology Laboratory Certified Senior Clinical Embryologist & Semen Analyst by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) ISO Quality manager (15224:2017)
One of the most experienced embryologists in the field of assisted reproduction in Greece.
She is the Co-founder of the IVF Athens Center to which she has been offering her top level expertise as Chief Embryologist after many years of work experience in private maternity and IVF clinics.
Among them was a pioneering medical reproductive clinic in Greece, which was affiliated with “PIVET Medical Centre”, Perth, Australia. Besides, she has worked as a clinical embryologist at IVF Unit of St Bartholomew’s Hospital.
Mrs Sakellariou holds a PhD degree from the Department of Biology of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (UOA), in which she graduated with honors (highest degree).
Apart from her daily high standard routine in IVF labs, she has been educating and been a mentor to many young embryologists in the demanding and fascinating world of embryology.
Also, she has been given educational lectures in ESHRE’s annual seminar “Semen Basic Analysis” in Greece and many postgraduate courses on Reproductive Medicine (MSc) as <<Reproductive-Regenerated Medicine / Clinical Embryology and Preimplantation Embryo Genetics/ Infertility-Assisted Reproduction Techniques>>
She has lectured in numerous national conferences and has presented her wide research work at national and international symposiums and journals on Reproductive Medicine.
Recently, she has enriched her knowledge by attending and successfully completing two specialized training and educational programs at UOA <<GENETIC COUNSELING>> and <<COUNSELOR MEDICAL ETHICS AND BIOETHICS (Medical Ethicist)>>
The reason why she enriched her scientific knowledge beyond clinical embryology in the fields of <<GENETIC COUNSELING>> and <<MEDICAL ETHICS AND BIOETHICS>> is because of one of her perspectives coming from her long involvement in Clinical Embryology:
“Always keep in mind how important is our support and contribution to people with subfertility and that we should be by their side with humanity and understanding to overcome any anxiety or concern through their difficult journey to parenthood”
