    ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a widely used tool in modern life, affecting our daily routine even if we do not notice. Since techniques in IVF are constantly evolving, hoping that every attempt will be successful and lead to a healthy baby, AI has also intruded to revolutionize this field.

Artificial intelligence (AI) fulfills the highest standards of laboratory technology in the field of IVF.

We are pleased to state that Athens IVF Center, once again leading the way, since it is one of the first IVF units in Greece, but also worldwide, that has included Artificial intelligence (AI) in the laboratory since 2021.

We use iDAScore, an artificial intelligence (AI) software algorithm, in conjunction with EmbryoScope®.

iDAScore is a significant improvement on any other system used so far in human embryology after being tested and based on multi-center studies  (115.000 embryos from 18 different clinics around the world) and provides fully automated selection processes and evaluations for each embryo of patients’ cohort eliminating the subjective assessments with completely objective analysis.

Further studies since then, have shown that the highest grade embryos in the automated selection process give the highest probability of successful implantation and positive fetal heart beat.

Recently, a new version of iDA Score has been installed in IVF Athens Center (iDA Score version 2.0) based on the same artificial intelligence technology, derived from more data (>181.000 embryos), more IVF units and after well-proven results (birth rates). It provides a fully automated selection process and evaluation for every fertilized oocyte (embryo) and at more stages of development (day 2, 3 or 5/6).

The advantages of the installed iDA Score version 2.0, are:

    • The availability of a score at any time from day 2 (at least 39 h post fertilization), day 3 (72 h p.f.) or until days 5/6 (108 -148 h p.f.).
    • The results are comparable between days, which means that a day 2 embryo with a high score has the same implantation probability regardless the day of embryo transfer and embryos with similar scores have the same implantation probability regardless the day of evaluation.

    FAQs on Artificial Intelligence (AI)

    How does AI affect IVF?

Scientific studies have shown that the combination of human (embryologists) and AI in embryo selection could be the key to maximizing successful outcomes and also reducing time, cost and stress of sub fertile people and their families.

What is a high iDA Score in developing embryos means of?

Studies have proven that highest iDA scored embryos have the highest probabilities of giving birth to healthy babies and is associated with:

    • increased live birth rates in a shorter period of time
    • increased percentages of healthy (euploid) embryos
    • lower miscarriage rates (1st and 2nd trimester)
