Medical aspects will be discussed with a gynecologist from our team (view the team <a href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/about-us\/our-team\/\">here<\/a> ) and various non-medical aspects such as logistics and time commitments will be discussed with our Chief Listening Officer (CLO, view her <a href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/our-center\/#chief\">here<\/a> ).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In this step you will learn about the blood tests required and the medication needed. Please allow approximately 60 min for a detailed consultation (for the couple if this is the case) and be ready that your medical history will be recorded and more tests may be requested.<\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 2\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">FOLLOW-UP CONSULTATION (HOME)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Since the time and cost commitment for international patients are greater, we at IVF Athens Center provide an end-to-end understanding of how the treatment process will progress by us. We assist you to plan your fertility treatment in the best cost-effective and time-efficient way. Prior to your journey with us, we strongly believe that you should be in touch and trust your consultant. This results to a stress-free process and better treatment outcomes and in the same way minimizes logistical and operational costs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In this step, after a follow-up of blood tests and further discussion of your individualized treatment plan, it is time to take your decision. If positive, you may register for an IVF cycle and agree to share with us your complete medical record.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the registration, our CLO shall assist you with your travel and accommodation arrangements. If needed, we also offer immigration assistance. Our services include: airport pick-up, assistance with hotel booking and details of the hotels nearest to IVF Athens Center, transfer to and from us, as well as information about Athens and current events (acting as your local concierge). We also work closely with hotels and apartments under a special rate arrangement for our patients. If you are interested to stay in such accommodation we will be more than happy to manage your reservation.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 3\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">STARTING YOUR JOURNEY TO FERTILITY (HOME OR IN IVF ATHENS CENTER)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">First step is an appointment with either your gynecologist in your residence area or Dr. Athanassiou , between day 21 to day 23 of your menstrual cycle. We offer you a detailed, personalized medical plan with daily instructions. The plan will be designed following your decision to start the IVF cycle home or in Athens and your availability to return to Athens\u00a0 one day prior to oocyte retrieval or the embryo transfer. All blood tests, consultation and treatment prescriptions can be completed in a day. You may return to your country the same or next day with the egg-inducing medications to be administered daily. Your doctor (and\/or Dr. Athanassiou) will advise you on how to use those medications. Blood tests and ultrasound scans are required to the very beginning of your treatment cycle.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our CLO will receive from you all the necessary informed consent and other documentation needed (according to the Greek and European legislation) answering in parallel any potential question regarding the whole process. First payment of IVF cycle should be completed within the beginning of the procedure. In case this step is done home, now is time to make the final travel and accommodation arrangements. During the whole procedure, your dedicated midwife will be constantly communicating with you.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 4\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">OVULATION PERIOD (HOME OR IN IVF ATHENS CENTER)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During this period extra blood tests and ultrasound scans are needed in order to follow the growth of your follicles. Your medication dose could be adjusted if needed after planned multidisciplinary meeting involving your doctor, Dr. Athanassiou, your dedicated midwife and the whole team responsible for your cycle. If your medication doses or any changes to your treatment are decided, the midwife will inform you accordingly. In case this step is performed at IVF Athens Center, please consider all blood tests and ultrasound scans under one roof. No stress for extra movements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If everything has gone according to plan, and the developing follicles with the growing oocytes reach the appropriate size and maturity (according ultrasounds and blood tests) the oocyte (egg) pick-up is arranged two days later.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">At the end of the ovulation period balance payment of cycle is required.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you have started your treatment home, you will then travel to Athens, for monitoring and the final phase of your IVF cycle \u2013 egg and sperm collection, laboratory procedures and embryo transfer. At your arrival, Dr. Athanassiou and all the dedicated team will welcome you in order to feel our hospitality and warmness, so that you have a stress-free procedure. They will closely monitor and care for you at all stages during oocyte (egg) and sperm collection, fertilization, early embryo development and embryo transfer stages.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 5\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">EGG AND SPERM COLLECTION (IVF ATHENS CENTER)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #b02e85\">i) <a style=\"color: #b02e85\" href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/services\/ivf\/egg-collection\">EGG COLLECTION<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The IVF egg collection procedure is scheduled when your follicles have reached the right size and maturity. During the egg collection a whole team is present, consists of an anesthesiologist, a special trained and certified gynecologist, and a couple of midwives and embryologists.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The egg collection is performed transvaginally with the aid of ultrasound monitoring and under anesthesia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;color: #b02e85\">ii) SPERM COLLECTION<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The sperm is produced same day of the egg collection, in a special designed room in IVF ATHENS CENTER. The spouse is in prior informed about the days of abstinence and any further useful notes. In case of sperm donor\u2019s sample, that is already stored in the Unit\u2019s cryopreservation bank, so that to be used the proper day (cooperating Sperm Banks: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cryogonia, Cryos International, European Sperm Bank, Ceifer BioBanco<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">)*<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. Spouse\u2019s sperm sample, at your convenience, could also be kept in our Cryopreservation Bank and used after thawing and preparing according our andrology lab SOPs (Standard Operation Procedures).\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">*<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryogonia.gr\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Cryogonia <\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cryosinternational.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cryos International<\/a>\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.europeanspermbank.com\/en-int\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">European Sperm Bank<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ceifer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ceifer BioBanco<\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sometimes we have to go on with other specific techniques to retrieve spermatozoa such as in cases of <a href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/infertility\/testicular-biopsy\/\">azoospermic patients\/spouses<\/a> (TESE, MESA, PESA etc)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0or extremely difficult\/poor sperm samples.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following the egg collection two options are offered. Either we can vitrify the unfertilized, <a href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/ivf\/egg-freezing\/\">mature oocytes<\/a> for social or medical reasons<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or proceed to the next step of IVF attempt, which is the fertilization (insemination) of the oocytes and further culture in the laboratory.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 6\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">FERTILIZATION \/ MICRO-INSEMINATION<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"color: #b02e85\">i) <strong><a style=\"color: #b02e85\" href=\"https:\/\/ivfathenscenter.gr\/en\/services\/ivf\/fertilization-micro-insemination\/\">FERTILIZATION \/ MICRO-INSEMINATION<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the most widely known method in the area of Medically Assisted Reproduction and involves the fertilization of the oocyte (egg) and the incubation of the embryo that are produced in laboratory conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fertilization of the oocytes is either done with the method of classic In Vitro Fertilization (conventional IVF) or with the method of Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), and the improvements of ICSI procedure PICSI\/IMSI.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #b02e85\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ii)\u00a0 <\/span><b>INCUBATION AND EARLY EMBRYO DEVELOPMENT\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Following the insemination of the mature oocytes (either with conventional IVF or ICSI) the properly fertilized oocytes\u00a0 (presence of the 2 pronuclei, male and female) are cultured under specific conditions in special designed incubators. In IVF ATHENS CENTER we are proud that we have the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitrolife.com\/products\/time-lapse-systems\/embryoscopeplus-time-lapse-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Embryoscope+ incubator<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in which is installed the latest artificial intelligence system for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitrolife.com\/our-products\/idascore-intelligent-data-analysis-for-embryo-evaluation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">embryo evaluation<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The embryo incubation can last up to 148 hours post insemination at the end of day 6, when good quality embryos must have reached the blastocyst stage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #b02e85\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">iii)<\/span><b> ELECTIVE FREEZE ALL<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">One of the two options for the good quality embryos in culture is to freeze them all without an embryo transfer on the same cycle. This option can be used widely to improve success rates or to prevent complications of the method (ex. Ovarian Hypertimulation Syndrome) \u00a0 or in of Preimplantation Genetic Testing cases (PGT). Even that freeze all option is usually preferred for blastocyst stage embryos, it can also be applied for embryos. Nowadays, all freezing techniques are handled with vitrification methods which yields extremely high success post warming for all stage embryos, as well as oocyte vitrification.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">You can find more details about survival and success rates for the two methods we use, for vitrification and warming procedures at IVF Athens Center:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kitazato-ivf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Kitazato-Vitrification-Catalogue.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/kitazato-ivf.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Kitazato-Vitrification-Catalogue.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.irvinesci.com\/media\/IrvineScientific\/Resources\/0\/0\/005483_vitrification_brochure.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/www.irvinesci.com\/media\/IrvineScientific\/Resources\/0\/0\/005483_vitrification_brochure.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 7\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">EMBRYO TRANSFER (IVF ATHENS CENTER)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Three or five days after egg and sperm collection, depending on each individual case, fertilized oocytes (embryo\/s) will be ready to be transferred into the uterus (the exact number will be given in the report). The number of transferred embryos is determined by Greek and European legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">After the embryo transfer, you will receive a report, informing you about the quality of\u00a0 the transferred embryos, the development status of\u00a0 the remaining embryos and their fate (vitrification or not). Besides you will get post-transfer instructions and the medication you will need to receive to support the pregnancy. This information will be shared with your gynecologist.<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                            <div class=\"text__slide\">\r\n                                                            <h3 class=\"text__slide-step\">Step 8\/8:<\/h3>\r\n                                                        <h3 class=\"text__slide-title\">PREGNANCY TEST (HOME)<\/h3>\r\n                            <div class=\"text__slide-content\">\r\n                                <p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><b>Following your return to your home country, we continue to provide ongoing support and care<\/b><\/span><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">.<\/span> <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">We\u2019ll provide a full copy of your medical record on completion of your treatment in Athens, along with a letter for your local supervising physician detailing the treatment undertaken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Within 10-12 days after your arrival home you will have a pregnancy blood test and then consult your gynecologist. Your dedicated midwife will contact you to check on your progress.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Excess embryos not used during your initial cycle may be vitrified and used for a frozen embryo transfer later on, increasing your chance of a future pregnancy (cryopreservation must be paid individually).<\/span><\/p>\n                            <\/div>\r\n                        <\/div>\r\n                                    <\/div>\r\n            <\/div>\r\n            <div class=\"image\">\r\n                <div class=\"image__slider\">\r\n
